Equipment used at freight terminals for container and trailer handling is either of the overhead crane variety (pictured on FreightCar.com's home page) or the side lift machine variety (pictured here). Each type have their relative merits with the overhead crane best suited to high volume operations. Overhead cranes feature diesel power, rubber tires and can handle loads up to 100,000 lbs. Side lift machines are also feature diesel power and rubber tires and offer greater flexibility with the ability to quickly move about the intermodal facility.
